Deniz Baykal Senior Associate
Deniz is a Senior Associate at the firm, working with major international and local corporations on a range of regulatory, compliance and commercial matters. He specializes in dispute resolution, dispute avoidance and risk exposure management.
In his arbitration practice, Deniz represents clients in ad hoc and institutional arbitrations as well as mediations conducted before reputable institutions such as the International Chamber of Commerce, ICSID and the American Arbitration Association. He also advises clients on investment protection under the treaty regimes.
In his litigation practice, Deniz represents clients in numerous high stakes cases before trial and appellate courts, as well as mandatory and optional mediation proceedings. His overall dispute practice covers areas and sectors as wide as construction, post-M&A, IT projects, data protection, shipping and agency disputes, recognition and enforcement of foreign judgements and arbitral awards, major employment disputes, goodwill indemnity claims and bankruptcy and restructuring.
Deniz obtained his LL.M. degree from Galatasaray University Law School with a dissertation titled “The Challenge of Determining Prescription Periods In Actions of Enforcement of Foreign Judgements and Arbitral Awards In Turkey”. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. degree, also from Galatasaray University.
Back in law school, Deniz has participated twice in the prestigious “Willem C. Vis International Commercial Arbitration Moot” dealing with CISG issues, where he successfully represented the Bilkent University.
